Legends Team Cup Launches With Thiem, Tsonga And Others
When: The first event in the summer series will take place in the Caribbean from June 12-14, 2025.
Gill’s Take: I have the fondest memories of coming home from school and watching reruns of the ATP Champions Tour. Before the YouTube era, this is how I learned that John McEnroe is a lefty who doesn’t mind half volleying from no-man's land. I believe there’s a market for this, if done right.
Mirra Andreeva’s Inevitable Rise
Why It’s Interesting: The Athletic’s Matthew Futterman dives into fantastic detail on the relationship between Conchita Martinez and 17-year old 2025 Indian Wells champion Mirra Andreeva.
Mirra’s Club: Only Serena and Steffi have defeated No. 1 and No. 2 in a WTA event (non-slam) as teenagers.
Examining ATP Injury Data
Why It’s Interesting: More physical points, longer matches, and constant ball changes. Are the chickens coming home to roost? The data is far from conclusive, but the warning signs are there
Poking Holes: Something like a bad flu season, or whatever it was that happened in Acapulco this year, could factor towards an increase in retirements.
How Billionaire Larry Ellison Saved Indian Wells
Why It’s interesting: Joe Pompliano brilliantly breaks down the full history of the Indian Wells tennis tournament. How it started, how it nearly ended and how then how it flourished.
Dissenting Voice: Ben Rothenberg writes that Indian Wells has lost its luster.
Coach James Trottman Talks Through Jack Draper’s Development
Why It’s Interesting: The ATP is doing this “Coach Spotlight” series on a regular basis and they made a great choice featuring Trottman at the start of last week. Did the scriptwriters tip them off (wink emoji)?

Leaving You With Indian Wells’ Hilarious Tennis Pro Masterclass 😂
On Monday Match Analysis, Gill interviews Joao Fonseca hours after he won his 3rd title of the season at the Phoenix Challenger 175. He then gets into Jack Draper's emphatic win over Holger Rune to capture his first career Masters 1000 title at the 2025 BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells. He discusses Draper's tactics and forehand development in particular. He then breaks down the final in Phoenix, where Fonseca outdueled Alexander Bublik in a couple tiebreaks and then ends on a Phoenix Challenger notebook dump featuring Kei Nishikori, Flavio Cobolli, Rinky Hijikata and Brendon Holt.

Hey everyone, Gill Gross here. While I’m grateful for any amount of success I’ve had talking tennis on the internet for the past half decade, I believe we should all be doing better in this sport as creators and as fans. The tennis content economy is far behind other sports by metrics of engagement and popularity. This newsletter is our effort to DRAW the great things we find in tennis every week- we search for content that teaches us, makes us think, makes us laugh and ultimately makes loving this sport the best possible experience. Our vision is to speed up the growth of a robust content economy in tennis, for the benefit of fans, players and creators alike.
